Tiscali commissioned Twofour Digital as a partner to deliver the image capture, encoding and projection technology for the unique Telectroscope project devised by artist Paul St George and produced by Artichoke. The Telectroscope is two huge brass and wood telescope-like oprical devices – one in front of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York and the other in front of Tower Bridge in London – which create a real time link between the cities.

Working on the Telectroscope was a challenging project for Twofour Digital – which required a high quality live video link between the two cites, over 3000 miles apart across the Tiscali network. Time was of the essence as the installation was designed to appear over night so they had only five hours in which to get everything setup and working 100% in both London and New York simultaneously.

In each Telectroscope is a Sony EX1 camera, the visual from which was encoded using Breeze Technologies Ice Blue capture cards and converted in to a MPEG 2 stream to be delivered across the Tiscali Virtual Private Network to the opposite projector (Sanyo XT-10) .

In addition to the set up and equipment, Twofour Digital also provided technical support for the project in London and New York. Previous work for Tiscali has included last years’ live web broadcast for the 02 Wireless Festival and previous Reading Festivals.
