BBC Children's commissions Twofour to creste new MyCBBC product

Twofour has been commissioned by CBBC to create a brand new product for the CBBC website where children aged between 6 and 12 will be able to create personalized online spaces in a completely safe and moderated environment.
Marc Goodchild, Head of BBC Children's Interactive and On Demand said: "The aim of this ground breaking project was to allow children build and personalise their own spaces using the best of CBBC's content combined with clever moderation to allow children to add their own content in a completely safe and trusted way. At the pitching stage Twofour's technical and development team created a unique proposition which placed the user at the very heart of the proposition. This innovative thinking has continued throughout the development process".
The new site will allow children to design their own den - mixing and matching from a selection of themed furniture, wallpaper, flooring, posters and objects. They will be able to build their own profiles, incorporate a CBBC avatar and add loads of accessories including a limited personal address book of friends who they can invite to view their den. There will be options to import creations they have made on other CBBC sites, they will be able to watch clips of their favourite programmes and take rss feeds from other kids' sites, such as Newsround, and place them in their dens. The dens are invitation only and friends will be able to leave messages for each other. They will also be able to give each other personalised presents and future plans include the opportunity for children to check out the dens of their favourite CBBC presenters.
"Social networking sites are everywhere but few are designed for children," said Mark Hawkins Twofour's Managing Director. "We are really excited that Twofour has been chosen by BBC Children's to work on a project which will involve a new audience in the latest technology. And because the site will not allow free text, does not allow sharing of personal data and ensures that children have complete control over who can see their dens, parents can be confident their offspring will be able to share online friendships safely and without supervision."
